SAN JUAN ISLAND
GUIDED TOUR

San Juan Transit, Tours & Charters offers a Group Tour of San Juan Island. The driver has inclusive knowledge of the island, the people, and the history. The tour allows for one or two stops from the destinations listed below (depending on the length of the tour).  We leave from the Ferry Landing in Friday Harbor or another location if desired, and proceed to the following locations:  

ROCHE HARBOR RESORT

Roche Harbor is an historical village offering beautiful gardens, unique shops, local artists’ work, a country store and see where Teddy Roosevelt slept twice. The only privately owned Church in America is also here!

KRYSTAL ACRES ALPACA RANCH

Farm and Country Store on 70 acres of sunny pastures with massive 300 year old oaks and more than 40 alpacas, offers quiet strolls and shopping for sweaters, coats and cuddly alpaca toys!

ENGLISH CAMP

Located on Garrison Bay, was home to British Troops during the "Pig War" from 1859-72.  Tour the solidly built structure’s still on the parade grounds and learn about the last "war" fought on American soil.  Hear about the pig that died for his country!

AMERICAN CAMP

Located at the south end of San Juan Island that was home to American Troops during the "Pig War".   See the original structure’s, and see where George Picket renounced his citizenship.  This is the location of where the Pig was shot!   Outstanding wide-open vistas overlooking the Olympic Mountain range.  On a clear day you can see Mount Rainier!

LIMEKILN STATE PARK / WHALE WATCH PARK

The park is the best place for close up views of the 80+ Orca Whales that swim 15-30 feet away from shore!  The whales make these waters their summer home daily April through September. Vancouver Island / Victoria B.C. is only six miles away!

ISLAND MUSEUM OF ART ~ SCULPTURE PARK

Come appreciate the benefits of native plant landscaping, and to enjoy our island culture, discovering sculpture in natural settings.  The 19 acres intersperses nature displays with rotating sculptures along trails through forest, meadows, fresh and saltwater wetlands, and rocky outcroppings.

SAN JUAN VINEYARDS

Is San Juan Island’s only producing vineyard and winery.  The tasting room and well- stocked gift shop fill a 1895 one-room schoolhouse.  Look for Mona the Camel from the sunny deck while enjoying the view and a favorite wine. 

SAN JUAN ISLAND

Covers the early residents, and the three main occupations (no, tourism was not one!), Fishing, Farming, and livestock. View the waterfront along the tour route - that 30 years and before had no value.

FRIDAY HARBOR

Hear about the early history of Friday Harbor and the waterfront, such as the canneries, buildings and residents.

OTHER LANDMARKS ALONG TOUR ROUTE

Smuggler’s Cove, Small Pox Bay, Deadman Bay and San Juan Valley, where at one time grew 500 acres of peas!
